In 2017 BlackStar underwent an energy audit to investigate whether there were ways to reduce energy usages.
Huxham Energy Consulting conducted site inspections and recommended the following measures to reduce energy consumption:
· Upgrading to LED lighting
· Servicing fridges and cleaning the condensers
· Optimising operation of ovens and other kitchen equipment.
In the year since the first audit, and taking these simple steps we have reduced our energy consumption by 12%.
In September 2017 we switched to using 100% GreenPower which means that all of our electricity is supplied by renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro and bio-energy which will reduce our emissions by 352 tonnes of CO2 every year.
Our next step is to do an audit of our entire business – that will commence after we set up our new production facility in November.
